Preakness Stakes Schedule
Preakness Day, or Black-Eyed Susan Day, will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013. The gates open at 9:30am and the first race is slated to start at noon. Both the Black-Eyed Susan and Pimlico post times have yet to be announced. You can get tickets and more information by calling 410-542-9400.
This year marks the fourth annual People’s Pink Party, where Pimlico partners with Maryland’s Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Macy’s Tickled Pink Fashion Show and Health Fair date and time have not yet been announced. Down The Stretch for SGK will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2013. This race is organized by Corrigan Sports and includes one lap around the Pimlico track before finishing on the infields. A percentage of the proceeds are then donated to the Komen foundation in Maryland. Runners are also allowed to create a secondary donation page. On this day, the Official Smith Island Cake Company will donate 15 percent of the sales of Black-Eyed Susan Cakes to Komen Maryland. In October of 2008, their Smith Island Cake was named the Official State Dessert.
Lady Legends for the Cure Race
In 2010, the first ever Lady Legends for the Cure Race was held and it highlighted two retired female riders who survived breast cancer. NBC Sports has profiled this race, as did JOCK, a documentary on the first generation of lady jockeys. Pimlico will match the amount wagered on the 2012 winner as a contribution to Komen Maryland.
